The Robert Burt Gallery was opened in November 1999 to offer degree level art students a bright, professional space in which to exhibit their work. Situated within walking distance of the Globe Theatre, the Jerwood Space gallery and the Tate Modern this area is the new heart of cultural London.
If you would like to enquire about use of the gallery, please email Paulet for more information. Please note that we do not let the gallery out on a commercial basis, but rather as an educational space to expose students to the realities and challenges of exhibiting and selling their artwork.
The gallery offers approximately 90 square metres of exhibition wall space and consists of two levels linked by carpeted stairs with an unpainted wooden bannister. Both levels have white emulsion ceilings and walls and white gloss woodwork. The gallery is carpeted throughout with brown cord carpet.
On both levels there are a total of 30 ceiling mounted adjustable lamps. The hanging of work is only by a wall mounted J-rail system with perlon cords.
The use of the gallery is rent free, with all sales handled by us on a small commission basis. A deposit of £100 is required two months prior to the commencement date of the booking period, which is repayable at the end of the booking period if the gallery is left in the same condition as that signed for on arrival.
Each booking period is two weeks (10 working days) starting on a Monday. The first day will be used for setting up, and the gallery must be vacated by 5.00pm on the last Friday of the booking period. The opening hours may be varied by the exhibitor between 9.00am and 5.00pm, which would also include the Private View. The gallery is not open on Saturdays and Sundays.
Provisional bookings can be made by a submission of a proposal of work by the students and a list of the students to be involved. On receipt of the initial provisional booking a formal contract will sent which should be returned to the gallery with a refundable deposit of £100 two months prior to the commencement of the booking period. A letter of confirmation will then be issued.
There will be an Inventory/Statement of Condition taken at the start of the booking period, and this is to be checked thoroughly by the exhibitor and signed as correct. At the end of the booking period the same check will be carried out, and we reserve the right to deduct the cost of any damage or cleaning required from the deposit paid.
